Research Department of Library & Information Science of the Fundamental Library
The Department engages in research and scientific-methodological activities within the domain of library science and bibliography. These efforts are intended to offer methodological and informational support to the Fundamental Library (FL) of INION RAN. By adopting scientific and scientific-methodological advancements of both local and strategic scope, the Department seeks to establish the FL of INION RAN as a foremost leader in the field of social and humanitarian sciences in the country.
Focus of research:
- Scientific and methodological support for the development of librarianship in the system of academic libraries as a whole and in its individual segments;
- Monitoring the state of information and library activities to identify the main trends that determine the development vector of academic libraries;
- Support through scientific and informational resources to the management frameworks of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and INION RAN, providing data on the status of librarianship in academic libraries to enable informed decision-making and the formulation of strategic initiatives;
- Consolidation of academic libraries, associated organizations, and individual experts to tackle systemic challenges in librarianship, thereby reinforcing the traditional scientific values of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Responsibilities and functions:
- Applied research and scientific-methodological developments that support the implementation of the INION RAN FL’s functions as the principal library in the field of social and humanitarian sciences;
- Scientific research in the field of library science, including the current state and history of librarianship;
- Study of the ongoing transformation processes within the normative and legal sphere related to the regulation of library and information activities;
- Implementation of the National Standardization Program in the field of librarianship and bibliography, encompassing both general management and the development of individual standards;
- Collection, processing, generalization, and analysis of data regarding the status of librarianship in academic libraries and information institutions;
- Publication of informational and analytical materials within its area of competence;
- Coordination of the work of INION RAN divisions in implementing scientific and scientific-methodological advancements to improve the operations of INION RAN and the academic libraries of the nation;
- Public scientific activities, including the organization and facilitation of scientific events, presentations at conferences, and seminars, to engage the library community in resolving issues pertinent to INION RAN. These activities strengthen its role as a leader in the social and humanitarian sciences and promote its positions on current librarianship issues at national and international levels;
- Preparation of scientific monographs, collections, indexes, reviews, and publications based on research and development results;
- Participation in advisory and other bodies of INION RAN (such as the Academic Council and scientific and methodological councils of other divisions), as well as involvement in various all-Russian bodies and international associations.
