The Department aims to provide bibliographic support for research in social sciences and humanities. This aim is pursued through scientific-information and scientific-methodical activities. The principal focus is the compilation of current bibliographies presented as a bibliographic index, “New Literature on Social Sciences and Humanities”, across ten series, published predominantly on a monthly basis.
Currently, the Department of Scientific & Bibliographic Information provides the following bibliographic index and database series to scientific community:
- «Economics»;
- «Philosophy. Sociology»;
- «Jurisprudence. Political science»;
- «History»;
- «Archaeology. Ethnology»;
- «Linguistics»;
- «Literary Studies»;
- «Science studies»;
- «Religious Studies»;
- «Cultural Studies»
The bibliographic indexes provide information on both Russian and foreign literature in the social sciences and humanities that is scientifically significant, and which is added to the collections of the Fundamental Library of INION RAN. On average, about 90,000 bibliographic records are compiled annually, including monographs, collections of articles, individual articles from academic journals, reviews, thesis abstracts, etc.
In addition to the main list of bibliographic records, branch bibliographies also include author and subject indexes, as well as an index of cited sources. These bibliographic databases also provide tools that allow for automated information retrieval.
Beyond current bibliographic information, the Department is engaged in publishing retrospective literature indexes. Presently, the yearbook “History of World Slavic Studies” is among its publications.
