Department of Linguistics
Head of the Department – Maria B. Rarenko
The department’s leadership began with Fedor M. Berezin, followed by Sergey A. Romashko and Emma B. Yakovleva.
Focus of research:
- Identifying new trends and theories within the field of linguistics and exploring different linguistic branches;
- Examining current linguistic trends and theories, such as language and contemporary society, language and migration, language and culture, translation theory and practice;
- Publishing the academic journal “Social and Humanitarian Sciences: Domestic and Foreign Literature, Series 6: Linguistics” (listed by the Higher Attestation Commission and RSCI), which began as an abstracting journal in 1973 and was reformatted in 2021 into an information and analytical journal.
The Department is involved in scientific, informational, and research activities related to linguistics. Its chief objectives include supplying up-to-date scientific information in linguistics to scholars, practicing interpreters and translators, linguists, students, and public sector employees.
The Department focuses on new trends and developments in linguistics both in Russia and internationally, while also offering informational and methodological support for language education. Established in 1973, the Department of Linguistics at INION RAN has a rich history.
