Department of Economics
Head of the Department — Maria A. Polozhikhina
Focus of research:
The central aim of the Department of Economics is to provide scientific, informational, and methodological support for research on key current development trends in the economic and social spheres of Russia and foreign countries. A strong emphasis is placed on identifying and studying high-potential emerging areas in socio-economic dynamics and innovation processes.
Our survey results on scientific information and analytical work are presented in the scientific journal “Economic and Social Problems of Russia,” the digital scientific journal “Social Novelties and Social Sciences,” and the digital journal in English “Social Novelties and Social Sciences: A View from Moscow,” among other Institute publications. Up until 2020, the Department also published the “Economics” series in the abstract journal “Social and Humanitarian Sciences. Russian and Foreign Literature.”
Following the scientific and editorial standards of the INION RAN collection of scientific papers published under the same name between 1998 and 2020, the journal “Economic and Social Problems of Russia” has been published quarterly since 2020, featuring reviews and articles. The journal's issues are organized by established categories such as international relations, financial systems, socio-demographic processes, management issues, and research and development progress, as well as thematic sections on current socio-economic issues. The authors focus on economic theory, socio-economic policy, and the outcomes of economic research. This publication is aimed at scholars, government officials, university faculty, postgraduates, and students.
The scientific journal “Social novelties and Social sciences” covers a wide range of topics in the context of rapid technical development and socio-economic transformations. Its main task is to promote interdisciplinary dialogue for generalization of knowledge about the modern world. Each journal issue is dedicated to a certain theme and reflects Russian and foreign expert approaches in different social and humanitarian disciplines. The journal publishes original articles resulting from theoretical and empirical research, as well as information and analytical materials (surveys, reviews, translations).
The scientific journal “Social Novelties and Social Sciences: A View from Moscow,” published in English, shares the opinions of Russian-language experts on various urgent topics related to the fast-paced technological evolution and shifts in socio-economic relations globally. The journal aims to promote mutual understanding and facilitate constructive dialogue between scientists from different countries, multiple academic traditions, and social and humanitarian disciplines, to create an integrated body of knowledge about the modern world. Each issue, organized thematically, includes research papers, review articles, reviews, and essays originally published in Russian by INION RAN.
