Responsibilities and functions:

Since 1973, the Institute of Scientific Information for Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INION RAN) has been trained scientific and pedagogical personnel in various disciplines within the social sciences and humanities, such as political science, history, and philosophy. Over the years, more than 100 candidates for PhD and Doctor of Sciences (Doctor habil) have completed their postgraduate and doctoral studies at INION.

Following a fire in January 2015 that significantly damaged the main building, the training of new staff was temporarily suspended. Restoration work on the building at 51/21 Nakhimovskiy Prospekt, Moscow, commenced in 2017, in accordance with a government decree, and was completed in 2022.

After resuming operations in its restored building in 2023, INION RAN received approval from Rosobrnadzor for a license to conduct scientific and educational activities in four areas:

5.5.2 “Political Institutions, Processes, Technologies”;

5.5.4 “International Relations, Global and Regional Studies”;

5.6.1 “National History”;

5.7.6 “Philosophy of Science and Technology”.
