About the Journal

The journal Sotsial’nye i gumanitarnye nauki. Otechestvennaia i zarubezhnaia literatura. Seria 5, Istoriia [The social sciences and humanities. Domestic and foreign literature. Series 5, History] is succeeding to the corresponding series of the abstract journals Obshchestvennye nauki v SSSR [The social sciences in the USSR] and Obshchestvennye nauki za rubezhom [The social sciences abroad] that were published since 1973 and were transformed into a single periodical in 1995. In 2021, the journal changed its profile and is now functioning as an information-analytical periodical. It publishes research articles, review articles and book reviews, translations and abstracts on Russian and world history, source studies, historiography, ethnology, anthropology, archaeology, auxiliary sciences of history. The main tasks of the periodical are an analysis of current situation in historical studies, revealing of new tendencies in modern historiography and of the most significant new publications in the field.

Founder and publisher - Institute of Scientific Information for Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INION RAN). INION RAN was founded in 1969 on the basis of the Fundamental Library of Social Sciences (FBON) of the USSR Academy of Sciences. It is a major research center providing support for scientific activities in the field of social sciences and humanities. The Institute is known both in Russia and abroad for its scientific-analytical, abstract, bibliographic and reference materials, and its library.
